Boeing Approval for 91´«Ã½, Western PA

In May, 91´«Ã½, Hermitage, PA was awarded approval to heat treat work for Boeing.  Since Solar is a relatively new heat treater (est. 1983) and Boeing is actually trying to pare down their list of approved vendors, approval verifies the unique resource of Solar’s 24 ft. furnace and vacuum furnace capabilities.

Quality procedures at Solar are critical to Boeing and its contractors in order to obtain the approval at the Hermitage plant site.  Solar is approved to heat treat a wide range of metals as indicated by the list below.  This includes processing primary metals such as titanium, which is being used in developing new aircraft like the F-22 Raptor, in which Boeing is responsible for various systems in partnership with Lockheed Martin.

This approval for the new Solar plant is the first major accreditation of approvals. Mike Johnson, QA Manager in Hermitage and Mike Moyer, Corporate QA Manager are anticipating NADCAP accreditation, ISO and AS approval in the future.

Approval includes the following heat treatments.

BAC 5617 Heat treating of Alloy steels
BAC 5619 Heat treating of corrosion resistant steels
BAC 5616 Heat treat of nickel & cobalt base alloys
BAC 5613 Heat treat of titanium and titanium alloys
